How VLOOKUP with multiple criteria works

A normal VLOOKUP usually matches one value, such as an email address or order ID. Multiple criteria means the row must match two or more columns at the same time. For example, Customer ID plus Order Date can identify the right lookup row more precisely than either column alone.

In SheetMatch, you do not need to build a helper column or write nested formulas. Upload or paste two tables, choose each matching column pair, then select the values you want to bring back.

Common criteria pairs

  • Customer ID + Order Date
  • Email + Event Date
  • SKU + Warehouse
  • Invoice Number + Amount

Examples

Orders and account managers

Bring account manager and region into an order export when the same customer has multiple dates.

Inventory by location

FAQ

Can VLOOKUP use multiple criteria?

Yes, but in Excel it usually requires a helper column or a more complex formula. SheetMatch lets you choose multiple matching column pairs directly.

Can I match more than two criteria?

SheetMatch currently supports one or two matching column pairs in this flow, which covers common cases like Customer ID plus Date or SKU plus Warehouse.

Do I need to create a helper column?

No. You can select each criterion as a separate column. SheetMatch combines the selected values internally when matching rows.

Can I use CSV files?

Yes. You can upload XLSX or CSV files, or paste table data copied from Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or another spreadsheet tool.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Spreadsheet parsing, matching, previewing, copying, and downloading happen locally in your browser.
